Purpose of the role

The Operations Manager is accountable for all cultivation, harvest, post-harvest, extraction, manufacturing, packaging, and fulfillment at the Ronan facility. The role ensures the company grows enough of the right product, converts it into compliant finished goods at a controlled cost, and delivers it on time and in full to Hi-Line’s retail locations and its wholesale catalog.

You will lead a team of fifteen, own the production plan and budget, and be measured on a written scorecard: plan attainment, fill rate, cost per unit, first-pass testing, inventory accuracy, retention, and safety.

Essential functions

Planning and supply

  • Build and maintain a rolling production plan and harvest calendar from retail and wholesale demand forecasts; participate in the quarterly production-plan approval with the CEO and Director of Retail Operations.
  • Allocate each harvest among packaged flower, pre-rolls, and extraction input to meet the plan and maximize value.
  • Fulfill store and wholesale orders on time and in full; manage finished-goods inventory and transfers.

Cultivation

  • Direct genetics and mother stock, propagation, vegetative and flowering operations across indoor rooms and the light-deprivation greenhouse.
  • Manage environmental controls, fertigation, and integrated pest management; maintain cultivation records.
  • Improve yield and quality per square foot of licensed canopy.

Extraction, manufacturing, and packaging

  • Direct cryo-ethanol extraction and post-processing in compliance with fire code, equipment certification, and company SOPs.
  • Plan and lead the build-out of solventless production (ice-water hash and rosin), including equipment selection, SOPs, and training.
  • Oversee trimming, pre-roll production, filling, formulation, packaging, and labeling to Montana requirements.

Compliance and quality

  • Maintain accurate seed-to-sale records in Metrc and reconcile them to physical inventory and the general ledger.
  • Own SOPs, batch records, sampling and laboratory test submission, quality holds and releases, and waste destruction.
  • Maintain inspection readiness; respond to and close findings with compliance.
  • Enforce security, access, and visitor-log procedures on the licensed premises.

Safety and facility

  • Own the facility safety program, including solvent storage and handling, emergency action plan, PPE, hazard communication, and training records.
  • Maintain equipment, HVAC, irrigation, and utilities; manage vendors and preventive maintenance.

People and cost

  • Hire, schedule, train, evaluate, discipline, and separate staff in line with MMH policy; develop leads and build bench depth.
  • Maintain 100% worker-permit currency for everyone working on site.
  • Prepare and manage the Ronan operating budget; report cost per finished unit, labor per pound, and yield monthly.

Required qualifications

  • Five or more years managing commercial cannabis cultivation or manufacturing, or comparable regulated production (food, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, hemp, controlled-environment agriculture).
  • Three or more years leading a team of ten or more, including hiring and performance management.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a production plan and budget, with measurable yield and cost results.
  • Operation or supervision of ethanol or hydrocarbon extraction in a code-compliant facility.
  • Seed-to-sale track-and-trace (Metrc preferred) or comparable lot traceability.
  • Experience writing and enforcing SOPs and batch records and passing regulatory inspections.
  • Eligible for a Montana cannabis worker permit; able to work full time on site in Ronan.

Preferred qualifications

  • Commercial solventless production (ice-water hash, rosin).
  • Light-deprivation greenhouse cultivation.
  • cGMP, HACCP, or ISO quality systems; OSHA 30.
  • Demand or sales-and-operations planning for multi-location retail.
  • Lean or continuous-improvement experience.

Physical demands and work environment

The following are representative of the demands of the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Standing and walking for extended periods across grow rooms, greenhouse, and production areas; bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing ladders.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to heat and humidity in grow and greenhouse spaces, cold rooms, plant material, pollen, and strong odors.
  • Work in and around an extraction room with flammable solvent and cryogenic temperatures; required use of PPE, which may include respirators subject to fit testing.
  • Exposure to approved pesticides, nutrients, and cleaning chemicals under hazard-communication procedures.

Pay and benefits

  • $85,000 annual base salary.
  • Annual operating-scorecard bonus of 10% of base at threshold, 20% at target, and 30% at the cap. Target total cash compensation is $102,000; bonus earnings depend on performance.
